Who is travelling?

Cover is available to customers permanently living in Ireland on an individual, couple, family or group basis as defined below:

Individual – One adult aged 18 or over.
Group - Multiple adults aged 18 or over. Each person listed will have their own policy which will cover them independently of the group during the year.
Couple – You and your spouse or partner aged 18 or over. You will be covered regardless of whether or not both people are travelling.
Family – Up to two adults and up to 5 of their children, step children or foster children who are unmarried and aged under 18 (or under 24 years if living at home and in full time education), accompanying the parents or legal guardian insured on the same policy travelling on any trip to the same destination.

For Single Trip policies the age limits apply at the date of departure for the trip.

To qualify for this discount all persons insured must hold an eligible private medical insurance plan for the duration of the AA Travel Insurance policy.

What is a valid private medical insurance plan?
A valid private medical insurance plan must provide inpatient medical cover abroad for at least €55,000

Please note, not all private medical insurance plans purchased in Ireland have this level of cover for inpatient medical treatment abroad – please check your private medical cover limits.

How does it work?
If you avail of the private medical insurance discount:

You must claim against your private medical insurance plan first.

Once the cover under your private medical insurance is exhausted, the AA Travel Insurance policy will kick in to cover medical costs incurred up to the limits set out under the medical expenses section policy.

By noting you have a valid private medical insurance plan, you can save money on your AA Travel Insurance premiums.
